What makes a technical role brief useful?

Separate must-have capability from preferred experience. Describe the operating environment, decision authority, interfaces, and the work that must be accomplished—not only a list of tools.

  • Outcome expected in the first six to twelve months
  • Technical and cross-functional interfaces
  • Required versus teachable knowledge
  • Location, schedule, and practical constraints
Sourcing · 5 min read

Before sending a product sourcing request

A product reference is helpful, but the application is more important. Explain what the item must do, where it will operate, what it must connect to, and which records are needed.

  • Application and operating conditions
  • Critical dimensions, interfaces, or performance factors
  • Quantity, destination, and required date
  • Acceptable alternates and approval process

A stronger project handoff in five lines

A good handoff makes the work easy to pick up. State the current condition, intended outcome, last material decision, remaining issue, and next owner with a realistic date.

  • Current state
  • Intended outcome
  • Decision and rationale
  • Open item, owner, and next date
